While obtaining her Bachelor in Social Work at Indiana University, Ms. Busam worked at the Villages, a state-wide therapeutic foster care agency, where she first learned of the unique challenges faced by children involved in child welfare. Her experience inspired her to pursue a career that assists and ensures that children who are court-involved have someone who cares about and fights for them. In law school, Ms. Busam obtained a law clerk position with Children’s Law Center, Inc. (CLC) where she worked from 2010-2012 and furthered her experience with guardian ad litem work. At CLC, Ms. Busam also assisted in an ongoing federal lawsuit challenging the policies and conditions of Ohio’s juvenile facilities and institutions. After taking the bar exam, Ms. Busam was brought back in by CLC to do contract work on this same lawsuit from August until December 2012. Ms. Busam additionally volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with ProKids from 2010-2012. As a CASA, Ms. Busam was able to apply her child advocacy skills, while working with crossover youth involved in both the child welfare and delinquency systems. Ms. Busam also externed with then Administrative and Presiding Juvenile Court Judge, Hon. Karla J. Grady. Through her work with Judge Grady, Ms. Busam gained valuable insight into Hamilton County’s Juvenile Court and the juvenile judicial process through evaluating the merit of motions and objections, and discussions with Judge Grady.
