Clay received their J.D. from New York University School of Law in May 2023. During law school, Clay interned with the Federal Defender for the Southern District of Texas, the San Diego Public Defender, and the Office of the Appellate Defender in New York. In their work, Clay represented indigent clients accused of felonies during the trial and appeals process. Clay was a member of the Defender Collective, Ending the Prison Industrial Complex, the Prison Teaching Project, and OUTLaw.
