INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLIENTS WHO HAVE UPCOMING COURT DATES

Because of the current COVID-19 health crisis in Hamilton County, Ohio, these instructions should be followed by all clients who are not incarcerated and have upcoming court dates, including those clients with hearings on their applications for expungement.  Currently, these instructions apply to court dates up to May 1, 2020.  The Public Defender’s Office will update this announcement should this crisis continue past May 1.

            1.         Unless contacted by your attorney and told otherwise, any client who has a court date between March 24, 2020 and May 1, 2020 should not appear in court; all court dates for persons who are not locked up are being continued.

All clients should contact their attorneys on the day following their scheduled court date for further instructions and for the date of their next scheduled hearing.  If the attorney is not available, please leave your name, case numbers, judge, date of hearing, and a good phone number where your attorney can return your call.  Your attorney will promptly return your call so please answer your phone or make sure you have a working voicemail that is not full.

2.         Those persons who have court dates scheduled for the court to consider their applications for expungement between March 24, 2020 and May 1, 2020 should not appear in court; expungements are either being granted by entry for eligible persons or continued to a future date.

All persons should contact Ann, the paralegal for the Fresh Start Expungement Clinic on the day following their scheduled court date for further instructions - she will advise you if your expungements were granted or if there is a future date for the next scheduled hearing.  Her number is 513-946-3692.  Please leave your name, case numbers, judge, date of hearing, and a good phone number where she can return your call.  She will promptly return your call so please answer your phone or make sure you have a working voicemail that is not full.
